Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the youngest of two sisters and an older brother. In the 80s, her parents fled to Bahrain because of civil war over Sri Lanka. This is why she was both born and raised in the country. In Australia she was enrolled in Media and Communications at University of Sydney following her graduation from Bahrain. A lover of cultures as well as languages, she enrolled in Berlitz Language School in which she learned Spanish and honed her French and Arabic. She was also crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6th, 2006 and also competed at Miss Universe 2006. In 2006, she was awarded she won the Miss Sri Lanka title. After that, she went into the world of television, hosting an interview show on Sri Lankan companies called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father is a professional badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has been raised both in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. As a teenager she played at the national badminton tournaments and international levels. She later quit the sport to make a profession as fashion designer. Padukone's native language is Konkani. The model is Mangalorean in her origins. Her lineage hails from Padukone village located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of the state of Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone is her father and was a badminton player with international recognition. Her mother works as an agent of travel.
